Prespa National Park is a pristine wilderness area located in the Southeastern part of Albania, in Korce County.
It’s situated in the Prespa region, which spans in Albania, North Macedonia, and Greece. The park encompasses a diverse range of landscapes, including rugged mountains, deep valleys, tranquil lakes, and lush forests. It is characterized by its unique biodiversity, geological formations, and stunning natural beauty.
The National Park of Prespa is home to a rich variety of plant and animal species, including many that are rare or endangered. The park’s diverse habitats support a wide range of flora, including endemic species and rare plant communities.
The park is renowned for its avian diversity, with over 260 bird species recoreded within its borders. It serves as an important stopover and breeding ground for migratory birds, including pelicans, herons, eagles, and various waterfowl.
The park is centered around the Prespa Lake, which is among the oldest lakes in Europe and is designated as a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance. The lake provides vital habitat for waterfowl, fish, and other aquatic species.
